Such great advice about stretching the time with family and friends to a whole wedding weekend! A nephew of mine did something like that, by keeping the ceremony and wedding reception itself pretty intimate…then the next day (after we “oldies” had to be off and back to work!), they had a relaxed, fun time with cousins and close school/work friends!

LOVE this, and Steph’s amazing perspective. I think having your closest friends and family around in the days before could be stressful, but would ultimately give you the freedom not to fuss!

I’m all for the weekend wedding…. we spent three days over on an island and like you Steph, the pre wedding cocktails and the day after at the beach are just as memorable if not more so than the actual wedding day. It gives a chance for all your different groups of friends who may not have met before, to bond as well!! Great post!

Thanks Jacin for the opportunity to share my personal experience. Hopefully this will help a few brides and also, one thing I would have wanted any other way: great people to ‘record’ the days (more than just the wedding day) – priceless! We were lucky to have Branco Prata!

Love this post! This is exactly what we did too. Friday wedding in Newport, RI and all our friends rented houses and stayed the weekend. We went on a boat cruise the next day and BBQ-ed. It was perfect and a great way to spend more time with out of town family and friends!
