New England Wedding Inspirations {Guest Post: Erika from Radiant Republic}

Today is my last day visiting with my parents before they head back to Connecticut. I asked the lovely Erika of Radiant Republic to visit the blog today because a) I totally love her style, b) she is a fellow New Englander, just like me, and c) she pretty much rules. So I’m handing the reins over to Erika for the day to give us her interpretations of New England Wedding Inspiration. Make sure you go visit Erika’s blog, too, and give her some love {tell her I said to say hi!}

Hello!  I’m Erika and I blog at Radiant Republic.  I’m thrilled to be contributing to Lovely Little Details today.  And I look forward to meeting all of you!

Jacin and I haven’t yet met in person, but we’ve quickly bonded over our adorations of the California coast and mutual New England upbringings.  When Jacin invited me to be a guest of LLD, I knew a nautical New England theme would be perfectly fitting!

With coastal Maine, Nantucket, Cape Cod, and “Little Rhody” at their fingertips, New Englanders tend to be ocean people.  And when ocean people decide to wed, their visions often include sand, sea breeze, and views of the Atlantic.

These hand drawn maps by Ice Cream Social are perfect announcements for a nautical wedding on the Cape.  I especially love that they’re printed on canvas and wrapped in a preppy, striped bellyband.  Truly an invitation that will last a lifetime! {invites/photos by Ice Cream Social}

What better time to don an embellished hair accoutrement than a breezy, seaside nuptial? This striped pinwheel adds an element of whimsy, while keeping the bride’s coif from being blown about by the ocean air. {photo by Jasmine Star}

A playful nautical theme can even be extended to the groomsmen’s attire. Think colorful striped ties and bright boutonnières! {photo by Kellan Studios}

Lanterns hung by loose, satin bows are the products of a brilliant DIY project. These gorgeous hues set the stage for an elegant walk down the sandy aisle!

The use of rope in place of ribbon is a fanciful interpretation of the seafaring theme.  The juxtaposition of seaside casual and sophistication is so charming.  What a stunning entrance!

These wedding favors certainly make for a sweet departure.  Who doesn’t love S’mores?  The navy ribbon detail is the perfect touch.

In true New England fashion, local beer is undoubtedly served.  What’s a seaside affair without a Nantucket-brewed Whale’s Tale? {photos by Stacey Hedman and Brea McDonald}

I’ve always been enamored with the tradition of riding into the sunset in a fancy car with wedding cans trailing across the cobblestones. What a magical getaway for the brand new Mr. and Mrs. Can you think of a more exciting escape?

I hope you’ve enjoyed my interpretation of nautical New England weddings!  Now I’m excited to hear from all of you!  What are some of your tips for an enchanting seaside affair?

From Jacin - OK as a Nantucket-loving gal, I’ll have to add my two cents that fresh donuts from the Downy Flake would be the perfect accompaniment to a post-wedding brunch or better yet, a late-night snack! {images from NantucketOnline.com}

    As a fellow New England girl who spent her summers on the ocean, I have to agree with all the details mentioned above! I love the black and white striped ribbon and the wonderful Save the Date! So preppy and classic, which are two very New Englandy characteristics!

    PS - you’re a very busy lady, Jacin! So happy to hear your family will be visiting for Christmas:)

    Ah, I love it. I had visions of New England wedding (on the west coast) and a clam bake rehearsal dinner. Our weather is so fickle with flew to Mexico instead. But I still mourn that wedding ;)

    Erika: What a gorgeous, inspiring and fun post. And, I am a huge Downyflake fan, myself. You really nailed the whole Cape theme visually, but made it new and added that element of whimsy we all search for.
    Remember, make your file, and go do what we discussed! You’ll be glad u did!:)
