guest blogger nicole - the love list

by jacin on September 29, 2010

i’m still away on my honeymoon, hopefully today we are going to bike ride down haleakala, a volcano on maui :).  in my absence, nicole from “that’s life” has graciously volunteered to do a guest post for me.  nicole’s blog is great and she tells a great story along the way - and did i mention, she recently got married!  thank you nicole!

So I was planning on doing a different post for Jacin, it was going to be the 30 Day Husband Challenge but as I got to studying the information, there was a TON of info and I couldn’t condense it down into one post so I got to wondering, hmmm now what could I do and that lead me to this: The Love List by Drs. Les & Leslie Parrott. Of course, that’s it, I’ll do sort of a book review of this book.

Before I got married (Sept 4th) my fiance and I went to a Focus on Marriage Simulcast. It was excellent. They had multiple guest speakers talking about different books they’ve published and just marriage in general and how to make it work. They had people who were single all the way to people who had been married 50+ years in attendance. One set of speakers that jumped out at us were Drs. (yes plural) Les & Leslie Parrott who are the directors of the Center for Relationship Development at Seattle Pacific University.

They were hit up by one of the Pro-ball teams coach there in Seattle to give the players a list of things, “a game plan”, for how to keep their marriage alive while they were on the road traveling so much. As we can all agree, Marriage isn’t so cut and dry, lots of things play into effect but they came up with a small list of things to do once a day, once a week, once a month and once a year to try and help keep your marriage in check and on the right road. I read this book and it was excellent. 124 pages is a quick read and if it helps, heck why not??

I won’t spoil all the contents but here is an outline of where the book goes:

Once a day:
-Take time to touch, if only for a minute
-Find something that makes you both laugh.

Once a week:
-Do something active that lifts your spirits (together)
-Boost your partner’s self-esteem

Once a month:
-Rid yourselves of Harmful residue
-Fire up passion in the bedroom (and no they aren’t saying only once a month…lol…)

Once a year:
-Review your Top-Ten highlights
-Chart your course for the coming year

It’s an excellent read and it really makes you think. If you would like more information let me know, I’d be more than happy to help (with what I know and I’m by no means an expert :)… haha)

I’m so happy for Jacin and her fiance! I hear marriage is great. So far mine is but I’m only a few weeks in :) Love and we can’t wait for photos!!!
