Bloggers {Unveiled}: Cyd Converse of The Sweetest Occasion

How did you get started in the wedding world?
I’ve always had a lifelong passion for events and design. In college I was really active with campus event planning, which eventually lead to starting my own events company, Sweet Occasions Studio (http://www.sweetoccasionsstudio.com/). In 2008, I started The Sweetest Occasion as I prepared for my own wedding and in 2009, I took a job in the wedding stationery industry. I never really anticipated ending up in the wedding industry, but it has been the perfect career path for me. It’s all weddings all the time these days!

What is your makeup staple?
I can’t live without Lancome Definicils mascara. (Lancome Juicy Tubes lip gloss comes in a close second place.)

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
In addition to being obsessed with all things pretty, I’m a bit of a geek. I have an MBA and an undergrad in architectural engineering so I admit to occasionally getting way too excited about things like numbers and physics. (But don’t worry, I’d rather talk about weddings any day.)

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
You have to do what you love. Running a business requires far more work, energy and devotion than pretty much anything else you’ll take on in life, but if you love what you’re doing it makes every day worth the effort. Also, things rarely happen overnight but with hard work you can accomplish most things you set your mind to.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
It’s all about the celebration for me. I just can’t get enough of great parties to mark life’s happiest moments. From the food to the flowers to the fashion, I love seeing how couples bring their personality and their relationship to life as they celebrate their marriage with loved ones.

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
During the summer I spend as much time as I can frolicking around outside, gardening and boating. In general, I try to make time to read a great book or a favorite magazine for at least a few minutes every day. It keeps me inspired and it gives me a chance to unplug from the online world. Never underestimate the power of a little mental break. (There’s something to be said about the power of a great margarita, too.)
