Lemon and Lavender

Today’s Blogger {Unveiled} is one of the prettiest gals around - both inside and outside! Ashley La Rue of Lemon and Lavender is such a sweet person and her blog is a serious go-to for daily inspiration. So happy to have her visiting LLD today!

About the Blogger:

Hello!  I am Ashley of Lemon and Lavender. I run a full service design studio specializing in wedding stationery and paper goods. In addition to the wedding side of L&L we also do business branding and logo design. I definitely have a passion for weddings which is how I got started in the blogging business! I love sharing what inspires me as a designer and I was thrilled when Jacin invited me to participate in her series!

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
I have always loved pretty things like any girl and growing up having a dad who was into graphic design and engineering he taught me how to scrub drawings in AutoCad and how to design a logo at a young age. After finishing my BA in English I decided grad school wasn’t for me and I was inspired by other mom entrepreneurs who could create a successful business and raise a family. In fact, it was my wedding planner who inspired me to go out and do what I loved: designing stationery. In March of 2010 I set-up shop and lucky for me several friends were getting married and just like that I had a client roster.

What is your makeup staple?
Lip gloss and blush.  I may skip the mascara and eyeshadow but I never leave my house without applying blush and gloss!

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
I secretly want to live on a farm. This sounds crazy I know, but there is something romantic and exciting about living on the land. I will never really do this but I love the idea of a provincial life preferably a lavender farm in France :)!

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
Don’t be afraid to fail. My business has grown and I couldn’t be more happy with my little successes but I didn’t start this business thinking I was going to make it big. I simply knew I wanted to do what I love and I wanted to share my passion with others. If it fails, so what? At least in twenty years I won’t have the regret of never taking that leap. Faith in ourselves is essential to success.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
In my line of work, I don’t get to see the bride on her wedding day, but I love getting that email after a bride has received her stationery with lots of exclamation points and OMG’s :) It truly makes me day. As anyone in the business will tell you happy bride, happy life!

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
I love spending time with family. Drinking wine, hitting the beach, dinner with friends. I love getting out away from my Mac and enjoying life outside the internet!

Happy Friday everyone!

Today’s Blogger {Unveiled} is none other than Ariel of Offbeat Bride - per your request, Ariel is here to tell you all about her blog, how she got started, and give us a bit more insight in to the awesome lady behind the amazing blog. Thanks for joining us today, Ariel!

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
After my wedding in 2004, I wrote a book sharing both my experience as a nontraditional bride as well as the wedding planning experiences of 50 or so other nontraditional couples. Offbeat Bride: Creative Alternatives for Independent Brides first published in January of 2007, and I initially launched offbeatbride.com as a way to promote the book. Based on the surprising and almost immediate popularity of the website and the dismal turn-out at my booktour events, it quickly became clear to me that no one cared about my stupid book — but people loved the website.

In the almost-five years since, the site has just continued to grow… spurring a network of related sites (Offbeat Home and Offbeat Mama, collectively known as the Offbeat Empire), and employing a staff of a half dozen editors and developers. A second edition of my book was released last year, but at this point my focus is pretty much exclusively on web publishing. Yay for the internets!

What is your makeup staple?
Blush. Living in Seattle, pasty skin is a way of life, and without a little blush, I can look a bit corpse-like.

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
In addition to working on the Offbeat Empire, I also produce a bimonthly comedy reading series called the Salon of Shame. It’s all about people standing up and reading their most embarrassing, terribly angsty teenage writing. Some friends and I have been doing the show since 2005, and it’s got quite a cult following.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
Have a genuine passion for your work. I’ve been a web nerd since my first online date in 1992, and dorking out on analytics and web stats and content management systems and plugins and PHP hacks is honestly, genuinely my idea of a good time. Yes, the Offbeat Empire is very much a business — but web publishing is also just my favorite thing to do. I feel like people have a genuine love for their work radiate that enjoyment to their potential clients. It’s contagious!

What is your favorite part about weddings?
Seeing the ways that couples reflect their interests and cultures in their celebrations. I’ve long said that I don’t reeeeally care about weddings — what I really care about are the weird wonderful people who get married. I love subcultures, and publishing a website about nontraditional weddings is a great way to be constantly learning about new pockets of culture through the people we feature on the site. Anarchists, belly dancers, computer nerds, derby girls, DnD geeks, feminists, Pagans, pin-up girls, urban homesteaders, vegans — I love them all!

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
Although my raving days are long over, I’m still a huge fan of dance and make it a priority to get to a dance class every week, and get out to shake my aging ass dancing at a club every couple months. My husband and son and I also do a lot of camping during the fleeting Pacific Northwest summers.

Happy Friday everyone!

Today’s guest in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series is the sweet-as-can-be gal behind The Sweetest Occasion, Cyd Converse! Please join me in welcoming her to LLD for the day :)

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
I’ve always had a lifelong passion for events and design. In college I was really active with campus event planning, which eventually lead to starting my own events company, Sweet Occasions Studio (http://www.sweetoccasionsstudio.com/). In 2008, I started The Sweetest Occasion as I prepared for my own wedding and in 2009, I took a job in the wedding stationery industry. I never really anticipated ending up in the wedding industry, but it has been the perfect career path for me. It’s all weddings all the time these days!

What is your makeup staple?
I can’t live without Lancome Definicils mascara. (Lancome Juicy Tubes lip gloss comes in a close second place.)

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
In addition to being obsessed with all things pretty, I’m a bit of a geek. I have an MBA and an undergrad in architectural engineering so I admit to occasionally getting way too excited about things like numbers and physics. (But don’t worry, I’d rather talk about weddings any day.)

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
You have to do what you love. Running a business requires far more work, energy and devotion than pretty much anything else you’ll take on in life, but if you love what you’re doing it makes every day worth the effort. Also, things rarely happen overnight but with hard work you can accomplish most things you set your mind to.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
It’s all about the celebration for me. I just can’t get enough of great parties to mark life’s happiest moments. From the food to the flowers to the fashion, I love seeing how couples bring their personality and their relationship to life as they celebrate their marriage with loved ones.

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
During the summer I spend as much time as I can frolicking around outside, gardening and boating. In general, I try to make time to read a great book or a favorite magazine for at least a few minutes every day. It keeps me inspired and it gives me a chance to unplug from the online world. Never underestimate the power of a little mental break. (There’s something to be said about the power of a great margarita, too.)

Happy Friday everyone!

The Perfect Palette

Today’s guest in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series is probably one of the most supportive bloggers out there, Chrissy from The Perfect Palette! If you are a bride-to-be all about the colors, The Perfect Palette is a definite must-read! Thanks for stopping by today, Chrissy!

About the Blogger:
Hi Everyone! I’m Chrissy, that color obsessed girl behind the blog The Perfect Palette! What’s the Perfect Palette, you ask? The Perfect Palette is a little site that I set up to help brides find their perfect wedding day color palette. A sweet thanks goes to Jacin for asking me to be a part of the Bloggers Unveiled series! It’s such an honor and I’m so excited to share!

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
I was actually one of those art majors in college who graduated and the second I hit ‘the real world’ I was without any plan on how I was actually going to earn a living. And although I did pursue creative avenues, nothing really panned out that was going to pay the bills!

So before I knew it, I had changed my focus and I was applying for sales jobs in Corporate America. Anything to get me out of my parent’s house! For 5 long years I worked in software sales for IBM, and although it was a very financially rewarding career, I was admittedly very unfulfilled. I had abandoned almost all of my creative outlets and my only focus was work and living for my weekends.

That was until I got engaged! A whole new and exciting world of creativity opened up to me and wedding planning instantly filled the creative void I had been suffering! I became a DIY queen and it didn’t stop there! I became obsessed with dreaming. Dreaming of how I could create our dream wedding

I started creating the color palettes that you see on my site in order to figure out what I’d like my wedding to look and feel like. But then I couldn’t stop! Before I knew it, I found myself on the the Knot message boards offering my help + services to anyone + everyone who needed me!

The response was overwhelming! And before I knew it I had hundreds of emails. All from brides-to-be who needed me. I felt a sense of fulfillment that I had never felt before. I was using my creativity to make a difference and it felt good. And that was it - I was hooked!

Then one day someone asked me if I had a blog where she could go and see all of my palettes? A blog, I thought? And it was that simple…the Perfect Palette was born.

What is your makeup staple?
I’m admittedly a red lipstick kind of girl. And although I know red lipstick isn’t really everyone’s thing - it has always been my thing. It’s kind of my signature look, I guess. Who makes my favorite lipstick? That would be ORIGINS! I seriously can’t get enough of that stuff.

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
The one thing people may not know about me is that I’m a new mom! My baby boy just turned 11 months the other day and I can’t believe that I’m already planning a 1st birthday party! A lot has happened in 3 years what with getting engaged, starting my own business, getting married and having a baby. I guess you could say, time flies when you’re having fun!

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
One piece of advice I can share in regards to starting your own business is to simply do something you love. As I mentioned before, I used to be stuck in a very unfulfilling career where I saw no light at the end of the tunnel. I felt like I was just going through the motions most of the time. There was no joy or sense of accomplishment, really. Sure, I met some amazing lifelong friends and for that reason, I have no regrets. However, I think at the end of the day, if you can figure out a way to make a living doing something you love - something that makes you happy, that is when you find true satisfaction. I feel so lucky to have found that! My happiness comes from combining my love for helping people and sharing my creativity.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
Well, besides my love for color palettes + all of the creative DIY projects out there, what I really love most about weddings is witnessing the coming together of two families. Family is really important to me and it’s so special to me to see all of that love being shared. What can I say? I’m a big sap.

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
Sure there is! I absolutely love to go antiquing - I suppose this is because I love to surround myself with things that have meaning, depth and a story. My perfect day consists of going antiquing with my mom and then grabbing lunch together. Oh, and I’m also a bit of a shutterbug too! I’m admittedly THAT girl who has to take a million and one pictures during every get together. What can I say? I have a little bit of a soft spot for capturing memories.

Happy Friday everyone!

Today’s visitors in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series are two of the sweetest people ever - Nick and Aleah Valley of Valley & Co - a San Diego-based event planning husband and wife duo making life prettier one day at a time. Their impeccable style never ceases to amaze me and I’m so happy to have them visiting today!

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
We officially got started in 2003 after a very detailed and fun planning process with our own wedding. We came together during the planning but also focused individually on what was most important to each of us. Nick worked with our amazing band while Aleah focused on floral and décor. We planned during our senior year at university and balanced it all because we worked together. It was such a great way to enter into our marriage together and we both wouldn’t have changed a thing. Back in college we were both involved with events and we’ve always had a knack for entertaining {even at a young age} so we feel as though it was meant to be!

What is your makeup staple?
Aleah: I am an Aveda girl all the way. From hair products to my lotions and makeup it makes my skin feel so good. I can’t leave the house without my Hydrating Lip Glaze in wineberry. Nick can’t leave without a dash of his subtly scented cologne from a little shop on Bond Street in London.

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
Aleah: your readers likely don’t know that my eyes are blue but one is half brown!
Nick: one of my goals is to swim in every sea in the world.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
People ask us this a lot. Live your passion but trust your instincts. Especially in creative business it’s so key to keep yourself grounded and balanced. Set a strict schedule so that your personal life and business life won’t start to clash. Listen to others and don’t stop learning. We are always taking in bits of business advice, inspiration, and words of wisdom from our peers and we keep our eyes open for inspiration wherever we are. Keep good company. Surround yourself with only positive people in the wedding industry. After all, we are in the business of celebration. There’s no room for negativity.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
The total joy they bring to our couples and their families. At the end of the night when everyone, old and young, is out on the dance floor everything else melts away. The result is a simply unforgettable celebration and the start of a beautiful life together.

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
Well we hope there is! We also run our wedding planning and design offices in Seattle and San Diego and run a second blog: Lifestyle By Valley & Co., which is great fun. While our work isn’t a hobby, we love it! We enjoy entertaining, hanging out with our families and friends, golfing, snorkeling, and love, love to travel. You can find us in our spare time relaxing and rejuvenating on the beach!

Happy Friday everyone!

Today’s visitor in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series is probably one of my favorite people - ever. Sofia Ferreira of Branco Prata is probably one of the sweetest people I have ever “met”. She and André are a dynamic husband and wife duo, and I just can’t get enough of them; I mean it when I say that the world would be a better place with more nice people like these two! Take it away, Sofia!

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
I always loved anything involving the words planning and party! Back in 2003 after planning my own wedding and while i was considering a career change, a friend of mine told a bride about all the details I did for my wedding and soon they where both knocking on my door! A couple of days later me and André had dinner together and decided we should join forces and start a business in the wedding industry! We haven’t stopped working since, so I have to say, this was a smart move for both of us!

What is your makeup staple?
Mmmmm i have to say… anything MAC and my Maybelline NY lip gloss, can’t leave my house without it!!

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
As we say here in Portugal, I think I’m an open book, I don’t have many secrets or things people don’t know about me… well… I like to think I have a (British) great sense of humour! Being with André every single day makes me laugh out loud at least 30 times a day, and if you know André, you know what I’m talking about ;) …. lucky, right?

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
I guess the best advice is to be true to yourself, to try and do one thing at a time… it’s not easy to “start with a bang” in this industry, so “be calm and carry on”, do your best, inspire others but don’t focus on what others think… focus on your clients, on what they want, they are the most important part of your business! Respect your colleagues, be nice to people and people will be nice to you! What goes around comes around… so if you share good things and positive vibes… they too will come around!

What is your favorite part about weddings?
Meeting new people every single week!

Sharing dreams with adorable couples!

Being a  part of so many specials days!

But most of all… doing what I love to do!

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
Spending quality time with my family and friends! We are always so busy that when we finally have some free time for our family, it’s pure heaven!

Happy Friday everyone!

Today’s visitor in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series is the most straight-up, real blogger I’ve met to-date, Alison of The Knotty Bride. Alison takes on real life challenges with a hilarious approach, a real girl who I can really appreciate! So please welcome Alison to the LLD blog today!

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
I’ve always been one of those girls who has a slightly different perspective from most brides, in that I never dreamed about my wedding and didn’t discover what an immense thrill it would be until I actually dug in and started exploring my options.  So, I’m the kind of person who truly starts from scratch, and I’ve discovered so much about who I am and what gets me revved.  That’s the whole point of TKB.  And it’s super fun for me, still, to this day… and I’ve been doing this for like years now.  I feel so lucky to be able to call it my full time job.

I’m also the daughter of two hopelessly empathic and deeply ‘present’ people, and so my desire to figure out a way both to be able to sprinkle muh learnins n things in growing up with parents like that and maybe be able to help people sort through and overcome that difficult life stuff, coupled with my superficial obsession with style and not-at-all superficial affection for all things related to love and celebrations made TKB an inevitability.  [← RUN-ON SENTENCE FAIL] That’s why TKB is so focused on the realities of life, love and relationships, and why I like to speak from the heart in each post.  OMG finally I’m done talking, right?  I’m so wordy.

What is your makeup staple?
I grew up under the guidance of a mom who didn’t (and still doesn’t) wear much if any makeup.  And, while I love the confidence she has to just fresh face it every day, I, uhh… I didn’t inherit that level of confidence.  Not even close.  However I didn’t learn how to apply makeup really until my college years.  And to this day, I don’t wear much.  But it’s not that I don’t want to doll it up sometimes, it’s simply that I am completely devoid of the skills required to make it happen.  It’s just the way it works, I think - people inherit their parents’ ways if they don’t fight against them.  :)  However, I do have a couple of absolute necessities that I slap on without fail whenever I’ve got an event or if it’s date night or I’m seeing girlfriends:

In other words, we just took the scenic route to me telling you that my makeups staples are blush and blotting paper.

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
I’m pretty sensitive.  Somehow I’ve managed to receive - I think - only one negative comment about myself/TKB in all this time, and it was from a dude who followed me on Twitter and complained that I was talking too much about weddings and he couldn’t take it anymore.  Which is actually not so much a negative comment as it is a confirmation that I’m doing my job properly, but still it was an odd moment for me.  So anyway, when I ultimately receive my second negative comment - which I have to expect will come one day, because that’s life and I write some controversial stuff sometimes - I imagine I’ll take it hard, because that’s just who I am.  Oh man I’m so sensitive!  It’s silly.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
I get asked this a lot.  My best piece of advice is to make sure you love what you’re about to throw your entire self and life into, and are comfortable committing yourself to it in a very serious way.  It’s really *the most awesome* feeling in the world to run a business.  And for me, the reason it’s awesome is because I absolutely love what I do with every fiber of my being.  My business makes perfect sense for my life, my strengths and my goals.  And honestly, once you’ve become successful at something you love, it’s pretty impossible to even consider doing anything else.

Equally as important, don’t just add the same ol’ same ol’.  A successful business is all about offering a new facet to something.  Be different.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
Jeez.  The END.  I can’t stand them.

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
Bedroom wrestling and sleep.  Precious, precious sleep.  I get to do that once in a while, when the NYC garbage trucks stop running oh RIGHT that never happens.

And yes, of course I believe there is life outside of blogging!  It’s called Attending Events Related to Topics I Will Cover When Blogging, and walking our dog. *giggle* :)

Happy Friday everyone!

Today’s visitor in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series is the ever so sweet Lauren Grove {I know, such a pretty name, right?} of Every Last Detail. I’m not quite sure when Lauren and I first “met” in this blogging world, but I think it was when I joined twitter back in November of last year, and true to her blog name, she is all about the details, just like me! Lauren has always been an overall ray of sunshine and I am so honored to have her visiting today! Keep reading to learn all about how she got where she is now, and learn a bit more about the lovely behind the magic at ELD :)

About the Blogger:

Lauren Grove is the editor and owner of the wedding planning and inspiration website Every Last Detail. Lauren provides insight for brides from a wedding professional and a bride’s perspective, while sharing weddings and shoots that are inspirational and of course focus on the details!

How did you get started in the wedding world?
I kind of “fell” into the wedding industry- if you had told me 5 years ago that I would be doing what I do now, I definitely would NOT have believed you. The story goes like this: I didn’t find wedding blogs until it was too late in my wedding planning (about 4 months before my wedding). After my May ’09 wedding, I kept reading blogs, and realized that there were lots of things that I would have done differently if I had known better. The thing was, I had a wedding planner who I thought would have guided me along, but that wasn’t the case (she was in my small town and not “up” on the trends).

And so, I started a blog (then called The Design Grove) with the intent of helping brides and trying to prevent them from making the same mistakes I did. Soon after starting the blog, I took a wedding planning course because I wanted to learn more about weddings- the right way to do things, the ins and outs, what happens behind the scenes, etc. One of the requirements for the course was to “apprentice” with a company for a certain number of hours, and I ended up at an event decor & design company. A few months into apprenticing with them, I was offered a position with the company as their in-house planner and an associate designer.

I relaunched my blog as Every Last Detail in November of ’09 and refocused the blog to reflect my experiences as being a recent bride and working “behind-the-scenes” in the wedding industry. And then almost a year and a half after the launch of ELD, I was able to leave my job at the event design company and pursue the blog full-time!

What is your makeup staple?
Oh wow- I kind of can’t pick just one! I guess my makeup staples are MAC Fluidline and Estee Lauder DoubleWear foundation. I love both because they stay on all day- and sometimes all night. :)

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
That when I blog, I have different playlists for different types of posts. I listen to classical music (usually piano) while I’m writing a more “wordy” post, and more upbeat songs when I’m blogging a wedding or shoot. It’s become a necessary part of my “process”.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
Sometimes you just have to take that leap and do something that scares you. It’s really the only way that you can ever move forward in business. Step outside of your comfort zone. I know it’s cliche, but it’s the truth. :)

What is your favorite part about weddings?
The details of course! I love how a couple can infuse their personalities into their wedding. When guests see something at a wedding and say “That’s SO {bride’s name} and {groom’s name},” those are the details that matter for a wedding. Plus, there are so many different ways to incorporate details into a wedding- I love them!

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
Well, I suppose that since blogging is now my full-time “job”, it can’t be a hobby anymore. I suppose whenever I’m not working, my husband and I like to cook dinner together, take our dog-child to the bay, or watch random TV series and movies. So I guess my hobby is spending time with my little “family”. :)

Today’s lovely guest in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series is the amazing and inspirational Carley Roney, chief content officer of The Knot. The Knot really needs no introduction, but I can tell you that even before I was planning my own wedding, I was counting down until I could register as a member on The Knot and create my checklists, look through pictures, and get even more excited about planning than I already was! So needless to say, I am extremely honored to have Carley stopping by my little old blog today!

About the Blogger:

Ms. Carley Roney co-founded The Knot Inc. in May 1996 and has been its Chief Content Officer since August 2008 and also has been its Editor-In-Chief since May 1996. From May 1996 to September 1999, Ms. Roney also served as Vice President of Creative Development.

Blogger {Unveiled}:

How did you get started in the wedding world?
When I got engaged in 1993, my now-husband (and business partner) and I were excited like any other couple, but quickly realized the resources available at the time couldn’t help us. I was working 70 hours a week and no vendors were open when I finally could sit down and plan after 7 p.m. There were no etiquette tips for modern couples. I couldn’t find any ideas on how to plan a wedding for a little blonde girl marrying a 6 ft. tall Chinese guy- never mind finding a red wedding dress since my future MIL informed me that white was the color of mourning! We were also planning and paying for the wedding ourselves and we couldn’t find any tips on how to do this. With the realization that the world of weddings was outdated, cluttered and chaotic, I and three other partners formed The Knot in 1996 to help today’s brides and grooms (and their families and guests) plan the weddings of their dreams – whether it’s a country club-chic wedding or a tropical destination wedding.

What is your makeup staple?
My go-to is Giorgio Armani Silk foundation. On most days, that’s all I wear. It gives a fresh look and I don’t have to wear anything else to feel beautiful.

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
My absolute favorite part of the day is waking up in the morning with my kids in bed with me – even if there are a ton of elbows and knees jabbing into me, it’s that QT that makes my day.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
I have two! Be willing to make sacrifices. It will come in the form of free time, money, your social life, and friends. Once you have your feet on solid ground, you can regain some. Also, make sure to enjoy what you do. It’s challenging but also a pleasure to work for yourself, not everyone is so fortunate. Take pride in it.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
I LOVE to dance, so my favorite part of weddings is that moment in the evening when everyone is on the dance floor, celebrating the couple, having fun, acting silly and truly letting loose.

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging} :)?
Aside from my day job of overseeing the content for all The Knot brands, my favorite thing to do is to spend time with my three amazing children! Whether its soccer in the park or exploring local Brooklyn hangouts, I always have fun and love spending time with my kids.

Today’s lovely guest in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series requires zero introduction, but I will give her one anyways. How did you get started in the wedding world?
I was one of those 20-somethings who was experiencing serious real-world burnout. I had been working in Investor Relations (as basically a glorified secretary) for a Hedge Fund and I would find myself in tears every Sunday night knowing that the dreaded Monday was just hours away. So, I quit. I moved back in with my parents and I started playing around with stationery. I had fallen in love with all things paper during a stint at the Union Street Papery in San Francisco and thought that it would be a fun way to feed my creativity while making a little money. I began with handmade invitations and notecards (we’re talking glitter, glue, the works) and eventually moved into a high end line of engraved wedding invitations. And so began my career in weddings!

What is your makeup staple?
DiorShow Mascara. Don’t leave the house without it.

What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
I can still do back handsprings. Much to the delight of my toddler.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
Get off your toosh and start doing! So many people have big, beautiful dreams and yet they are too bogged down with life to make them happen. For me, dreams aren’t just something you should wish for…they are ideas that can give birth to new passions, new paths and ultimately new lives. There are very few dreams of mine that I haven’t acted upon and although I’ve fallen flat on my face quite a few times, I believe wholeheartedly that if I hadn’t tried, I never would have been blessed with the life that I live right this very moment.

What is your favorite part about weddings?
The details. I know that I should say that it’s the love, the romance, the story…but nope. It’s the design behind the day that gives me total butterflies. A perfectly crafted cake, a gorgeous unexpected detail, a stunning dress, a crazy beautiful bouquet. It’s the one day where you can completely spoil yourselves with beauty beyond belief and I love that.

What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging}?
My kids! I seem to be seriously lacking time these days now that we have two little Larsons running our house and a business that is all consuming. But in those wee hours where I’m not wiping snotty noses or cooking up chicken nuggets, I love to work on my house, cook yummy meals, play around with my camera. And surf the web. Current obsession is pinterest, though I am embarrassingly obsessed with the Real Housewives blogs on Bravo. Just don’t tell anyone that I said that.
