What to Wear - Engagement Photos

Hi Everyone, it’s Camille again. I just wanted to start off this post with a big thanks to everyone for their kind words about my engagement. You are all so sweet, thanks!

There is so much fun and useful information on LLD about wedding planning and fashion, but today I thought it would be fun to do an engagement photography fashion roundup.

From a wedding/engagement photographer’s standpoint, I’ve learned that a lot of fashion trends may not always look the best for engagement photography. Not only are these photos going to last forever (and super trendy fashion looks are not), but even some timeless looks don’t always look that great on camera (i.e., black and/or white clothing). However, if you really love a certain trend (floral print, for example) and feel you just must wear it in photos - then do what makes you feel comfortable and beautiful! But one thing I do suggest to couples I’m working with, if they are unsure what look they are going for, is to bring multiple outfits and do some shots in all of them.  That way you can get images in more timeless pieces, and in your new favorite and more current dress/skirt/top. It’s a win-win!

And again, I feel the biggest thing is too make sure YOU feel comfortable, beautiful, and like yourself, while keeping in mind bra straps, skirts that may ride up, sheer fabric, etc…

Here are a couple of engagement photography fashion tips I’ve gathered over the past year-

-Avoid lots of bright white (this is hard on photographers, especially when it is bright outside)
-Avoid too crazy/loud prints
-Wear lipstick, gloss, or Chapstick, and keep it with you to reapply. Chapped/dry lips don’t look quite as cute :)
-Be aware of what your significant other is wearing. I would not say to “match”, but make sure you two aren’t clashing
-Break any of these rules whenever/wherever you feel like it is the best decision for YOU (the most important rule in my mind)

Here are two outfits, a more casual look and a dressier look, that in my opinion (from a photographer’s standpoint) would make for great outfit options. Plus, each piece I included (except the J Brand jeans) is UNDER $50.00 on Piperlime

All pieces and images from Piperlime.

Anyone else have any engagement photography fashion tips? Or wear anything in particular that just looked stunning in their photos? I would love to hear them!

-Camille

These outfits are adorable - I especially love the dress! For some reason, I always think cute little cardigans look great in engagement sessions.

I’m currently debating over what to wear for my upcoming shoot. So thanks for the tips! I’ve narrowed it down to four different outfits since we are given the opportunity to change outfits up to that many times.

Also, just suggesting…fun colored shoes always POP in photos. And, if you do wear a new outfit or pair of shoes, make sure to remove stickers, tags, etc. I’ve seen pictures that girls have left the sticker on the bottom of the shoe. That’s totally distracting!

These looks are so darling, and I love your advice! I love when couples compliment, but super matched shoots are better left to adorable holiday cards!

Well thought-out ideas! I like the dress the most, but I usually do! Changing is fun and always makes for such a different feel even if the shots are the same.
