I know at this point, Pinterest is nothing new - but it is still one of my favorite ways to share and gain inspiration from the blogging, design, lifestyle and wedding perspective. Before pinterest, I would save image after image on to my computer desktop for brides (and during my planning, for myself) for inspiration boards. But with pinterest in the picture, I no longer have to do that - I can just save everything in to specified “boards” online! And the best part? I can “pin” images from their original source, so when it comes time to blog, or give credit where credit is due, I can just click back to the original post from where the image was found.
I know there are still some of you out there who have yet to jump on the pinterest train, so I wanted to do a lovely little Pinterest 101 for you today. For you newbies, here’s a quick rundown on what to do (and what to expect):
1. First off, if you don’t have a pinterest account yet, leave a comment below with your email, and I will send you an invite! I believe Pinterest is still invite-only if you want an expedited account, but you can always request an invite from the site manually as well (I just think it takes longer). This is always one of the first things I do with my brides, to make sure we can both pin to our shared pinterest boards :)
2. Once you are a member, head on over to the goodies page, and download the “pin” button to your task bar. Rather than get all confusing on you with technical jargon, I’ll let pinterest do the explaining on how to do this, via their video tutorial below.
3. Now that you’ve installed the pin button, you can start pinning! Below is an example of what your account screen will look like, once you’ve started to create and fill boards. Some boards you can consider are: wedding cakes, inspiration, flowers, etc.
There is no limit to the number of boards you can create, and best of all, they are all in one place.
4. Follow people! The more people you follow, the more inspiration will come through your daily feed. You can then re-pin, like, and comment on other people’s inspiration, and be provided with a constant supply of new ideas every time you log in.
5. Try to always pin and track down the original image when it comes time for posting to your blog. There’s nothing worse than seeing “pinterest” as the credit for an image that a photographer or event designer worked so hard to put together! Remember, pinterest is not the source - do the digging if you have to in order to find the vendors :)
Bonus: Want to know which pins may have come directly from your blog? Go to: http://pinterest.com/source/INSERTYOURURLHERE (example: http://pinterest.com/source/lovelylittledetails.com). Thanks Chelsea for that fun tip!
I seriously consider Pinterest to be a bloggers best friend - if you’re having one of those “what should I post about today” days, I can guarantee within 3 minutes on pinterest, you’ll have a post idea up and ready to go. Sometimes a picture is all it takes!
If you have any questions or need a pinterest invite, leave a comment below and I’ll get on it as quickly as I can. Happy pinning!
Pinterest is amazing! No more hours of searching for image sources definitely means it’s a bloggers best friend, but the ability to pin your own inspiration and share boards means it’s perfect for the bride-to-be and her ‘maids and mums too!
Oh such a cool post! Thanks for the tips, it’s fun to see what pins come directly from our blog!!
I LOVE this post — getting my brides signed up & set up for Pinterest is one of my FIRST goals after meeting with them. There are quite a few people who don’t even KNOW about it’s amazing-ness just yet and it is a WORLD of help in seeing what my brides are liking & loving & what direction their wedding is taking! It’s a GREAT tool for photographers as we’re such visual people too — you can tell me something, but to SEE it? Well that’s a whole new story. Great post, Jacin!!
The pinit toolbar button is my favorite when it comes to reading blogs or just browsing around online. Pinterest is a daily thing for me, and is always a quick pick me up if I need one! I can’t say enough how important it is to find the original image before pinning it. A lot of folks pin things with out tracking down the original. It’s a little more work but worth it down the road when you refer back to your boards.
Perfect for the newbie! GREAT post, Jacin! :)
currently working on making sure all my boards are linked to originals :)
Oh no I just totally wrote a post about Pinterest; I guess I’m playing Devil’s Advocate :) hehe
Wow! I just discovered Pinterest from you! I’d love it if you could send me an invitation!
alexandraquinn88@hotmail.com
Thank you!
I love Pinterest! I find myself spending hours on there.. but I LOVE IT! haha :) If you could give me an invite that would be lovely!! :)
i couldn’t agree more. it’s where i keep most of my blogging inspiration & it’s definitely where i store ideas for posts. sometimes i look at all my pins on one page and see if i find a common theme for an inspiration board. i don’t use it as much as i used to (i would stay up almost all night pinning!), but i love using it when i need a little inspiration boost.
I think I’m finally ready to jump in. I would love an invite.
Hi! I’d love an invitation - sounds like exactly what I need! Thanks!
court0202@hotmail.com
This post is so spot on, particularly about crediting. If you can’t find the source, you shouldn’t even bother with sharing it!
thank you for the last section on this, always learning!
I’m drawing more and more of my friends into my evil web of pinterest addiction, me personally I can’t get enough of it - it is such a great site!
hi i just discovered this website who seems to be great could you send me an invite please :-) thanks meg-@wanadoo.fr
I ADORE Pinterest both personally & professionally. I wish it has been around for my wedding planning!
Great post! I love Pinterest & loverly!
You have re-inspired my love of Pinterest! And the tip about seeing what has been pinned from your own site was great - I just scrolled through mine and it was fun seeing what people thought was interesting. I even got some ideas from my own blog that I had forgotten about, LOL!
I’m not sure what I did before Pinterest! LOVE It.
I would love to have an invite from you, I have tried requesting one from the site and its taking forver :(
I love reading your posts with helpful hints here… I didn’t know you could see things that came off your blog… how awesome!
I love your photo on your pinterest account as well as your new one on Twitter! I think its so funny the sources that are on there…i saw google as one a few times!! Def find the source before posting on your blog. But you’re right, its a great way to be inspired…i love it! I wish there was a way to post the boards though.
How was your SAVE THE DATE?
i think i need to see what this is all about! aliamanly@yahoo.com
Pinterest is my favorite. No, seriously I can’t get enough :)
Fun for hours, I tell you.
Thank you, thank you! I’ve been wondering how to get on pintrest!
hhokama@cox.net
I’m still fairly new to Pinterest but I can’t get enough-these tips are genius!
can you send me an invite?
Pinterest looks like a lot of fun, I’d love an invite!

I would love a Pintrest account. I have been thinking about it for a while and you sold it to me! ashley [dot] debisschop [at] gmail.com
Better than Facebook!
LOVE Pinterest to bits! Great tip for seeing what people have been pinning from your blog! As you mentioned on Facebook, Lover.ly is another fab wedding inspiration site and it’s great that every image is properly credited :)
What a terrific post Jacin - you covered everything perfectly and I LOVE pinterest and so happy there’s even an iphone app. I’ve been known to create a few boards at night before falling asleep LOL. I accessed Lover.ly today, but it’s only photos from a few select wedding blogs and you can’t “pin” photos you find online so it’s quite limiting. You’ll still find me pinning on pinterest ;)
Amazing! Thank you, thank you! Your blog is totally getting bookmarked under “Uber Fab; Visit on the Daily!”
<3
Best,
Kathy
I completely agree with you that Pinterest is a blogger’s best friend! I am completely grateful for it. Before, I had to do a lame Google search for quality images that would best fit my articles, but now I have no problem finding “blue door” or “exposed shelving” for example. It’s seriously addicting!

Thanks for the post. Pinterest is new to me and I would love to check it out. Please send invite to allisterbrookes@gmail.com. Thanks in advance!
Ok, I’ve joined. I’m there. I’m still SO CONFUSED. Like, do I look at what other people have pinned and re-pin? Is that a good thing? I don’t really go to other “inspiration” websites so to speak so I’m not sure where else I would pin from. I want to like this, I really do! This was a helpful start…it’s just going to take some time for my slow self to catch on (I’m also incredibly hungover right now, so that may be it, too.)
I’d like a pinterest invite, I am trying to plan my wedding and I have seen SOOO many great things on that website. my email is nicole_adam55@yahoo.com
