Lovely Advice: Use Online Coupon Sites for Affordable {& Fun} Date Night Ideas

{personal photo}

Today’s advice is simple. Sign up for coupon websites - sign up for them all. While our favorite date night consists of a night in, a loaf of french bread, some cheese and a bottle of wine, it is nice to change things up every once in a while, without breaking the bank. For Pat’s birthday last month, I bought him a flying lesson over the San Francisco bay - he took off, landed, and flew us around SF while the instructor made adjustments here and there and stepped in if needed. While it wasn’t “cheap”, it was still a fraction of the original cost, and was such a fun way to celebrate his birthday (and a fun surprise too).

Recently, we’ve been purchasing online coupon deals to take advantage of fun things around the city so we can explore together and enjoy “touristy” things, or check out new restaurants rather than frequenting the same spot over and over.

Here are a few of my favorite online coupon sites (click the links below to join):

The Foundary - everything from home decor, to housewares and even furniture and small appliances. While not necessarily applicable to “date night”, it’s still a perfect site for holiday gifts or wedding presents. I recently bought 2 of my Christmas gifts from here (80% off and 75% off!) and I just love that they are so different than what you’d find in regular stores.

Groupon - pretty sure we all know what this is, right? But Pat and I use this for local restaurant deals, and my girlfriends and I score the occasional Napa massage deal, too. I recently bought a year’s subscription to Us Weekly (don’t judge!) for 75% off the cover price. Well worth it, in my book!

Travelzoo - the picture above was taken during a sunset cruise we booked through Travelzoo. It was so fun to enjoy a night on the bay, a seemingly touristy thing to do, but romantic too. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone! I also booked Pat’s flying lesson through Travelzoo. They have great vacation deals too, perfect for honeymoons or excursions during your trips.

LivingSocial - this one is great for restaurants and the occasional yoga class or play.

Bloomspot - think romantic getaways, vacation deals, and a must-visit for honeymoon ideas. I love getting these updates in my email, because sometimes an offer is too good to refuse (think a night away in Carmel, or Napa), and often times I send to my brides as ideas for hotel rooms for guests!

Fab.com - LOVE. Seriously love this one. Think groupon meets design/crafters. Art kits, paper, and fun kitschy types of things in this one. I got the best iPhone case on here that was one of a kind, and a few cute stocking stuffers too.

Lot 18 - If you like yummy wines & gourmet food, this one is for you.

Eversave - this is new to the scene but yesterday I scored a year’s subscription to Bon Appetit magazine for $5!

Gilt - for the fashion lovers out there, this one is for you. Kate Spade sunglasses, seven jeans, Hunter wellies - keep your eyes out because deals go quickly!

Hautelook - another fashion site, (I saw Joes jeans today), but with some travel and stocking stuffers thrown in.

My favorite part about these sites is purchasing a deal in advance to use later on in the year. It gives us something fun to look forward to, and saves us money in the long run!

So tell me, am I missing any coupon sites? Please let me know so I can add to the list! Are you members at any of these? Score any deals lately?

Happy shopping :)
