Simple & Pretty Holiday Ornament Display: A Clear Cake Stand!

{personal image}

While I am all about coordinating colors and design to make things pretty, our Christmas tree is a design-free zone - it is filled with mismatched (and sometimes tacky) ornaments that hold so many memories for each of us, and we wouldn’t have it any other way! This year we realized we had way more ornaments than would fit on the tree, and we almost threw some of these metallic ball-shaped ones away.

As I was cleaning the kitchen, including our clear cake stand (that doubles as a punch bowl, hello!), I couldn’t help but think about a fun way to display the ornaments that didn’t make the cut on the tree - so I placed them inside the cake stand! It turned out to be a pretty little display case to add a pop of color in the living room :)

Now that I did this, I’m thinking of all kinds of other things you could store - leftover garland and red bows, silver tinsel, fake snow and trees - the possibilities are endless! So what do you think? Yay or nay?

    100% yay! I always wind up stashing extra ornaments in decorative bowls, and if they’re plastic, along window ledges or bookshelves. Its better than letting them sit in a dusty box all season, right? :)

    Cute! This is the kind of stuff my mother is great at thinking of. I, on the other hand, wouldn’t have thought of it if I didn’t see this post.

    oohh! Great idea. I always see those coordinated ornament sets (like scenes from nutcracker, or 12 days of christmas) and want to get them but display them together and this would be perfect!

    LOVE this idea! We added some ornaments to an old hurricane vase for our table this year. But I have a cake stand we can do this with next year!

    Love it! I have a tray of glass ball ornaments on my coffee table.
    I have to say, as much as I think styled trees in magazines are gorgeous, I love it when home trees are just a mish-mash. There is no order or theme to ours, it is just all our favourite ornaments. Handmade, storebought, fabric, plastic, glass, clay…. it’s everything and I love it!
