Lovely Little Detail DIY: Pretty Pencil Banners {School Theme Wedding}

by jacin on July 11, 2011

Hi everyone! Hope you had a great weekend! I hosted a full-blown craft fest over here at the LLD headquarters - we made everything from tissue poms to custom placecards to pretty pencil banners to chalkboard signs to… you name it! Kristy & Danny’s wedding was yesterday and as she is an elementary school teacher, she wanted to incorporate a school theme in to the big day; so we took that theme and made it pretty. The bride and groom were so excited about how everything came out, so that made me happy!

Anyways, as I mentioned on Facebook, this week I will try to post as many DIYs as I can, starting with these simple pencil banners. I wanted to use pencils for one of the details we had on the tables, but wanted to jazz them up a bit. These pencil banners created a lovely little detail that was special and personalized without breaking the bank.

Here’s what you need:
Colored paper
Paper cutter (BEST. INVENTION. EVER)
Pencils & sharpener (thanks Amanda!)
Scissors
Double sided glue tape (SECOND. BEST. INVENTION. EVER)

Step 1:
Print the wording you want to show up on the pencils. I designed these in illustrator and used the cute handwriting font to emulate 4th graders learning cursive :).

 Step 2:
Use a paper cutter to cut even strips. I created guidelines in the design so they would be evenly sized.

Step 3:
Apply 2″ of glue tape to center of back of each strip.

Step 4:
Holding ends together forming a loop, affix banner to pencil. If you want to take it a step further, cut a “v” in the end of the banner to add a pretty detailing.

That’s it! You can also use this technique for drink sticks, barber straws, and a million other things that my tired little mind can’t fathom right now.

See you back here tomorrow!

Love this idea! My sister would totally love it! She is a pre-k teacher and this would be a great, cheap and simple idea to jazz up some of the goodie bags she gives out during different holidays and events throughout the year.
