Pat and I have always been dog lovers, and both grew up with them in our families. We have wanted a dog for so so long but the stars haven’t quite aligned for us - we had 7 weddings this year (our friends, not LLD weddings) and had to travel back east for every single one. It just wouldn’t have been fair to leave a little pup behind for all the trips, so we kept putting it off….
Until this weekend, that is!
I found a local breeder for Australian Shepherds (no, he’s not a bernese mountain dog though he does look similar!), and we went to pay a visit on Saturday “just to look.” Yeah right - the second we got in there, this little guy ran right up to Pat and sat right in his lap - we were hooked right away.
We never intended on getting a dog that day, we just wanted to look and see if we connected with anyone. Well, this guy stole our hearts the second we laid eyes on him, and after driving out to Sacramento for a site visit, we called the breeder and asked if we could take him home that very same day. She said yes, and after a quick visit to Petco for some supplies, we were on our way to pick up our new dog, Rhody!
{please ignore the triple chin and “ombre” hair in this pic :)}
Our first night was tough - I felt so bad for the little guy, being taken away from his momma and siblings. And the whimpering broke my heart! But he is right at home and we could not love him any more - he runs around the apartment, going from my lap to Pat’s lap, and providing us with endless entertainment.
Oh and why the name Rhody? Pat and I met at the University of Rhode Island, so it seemed only fitting that our new pup could bear the name of one of our favorite places, Rhode Island :)
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend - see you back here later this week with another video DIY! In the meantime, one last Rhody pic for you :)
We are so in love with this little guy :)

Thats the exact story of how my husband & I got Emma, our now 8 month old Black Lab. We went into the pet store to get some food for Tucker, our now 14 mth old Chocolate Lab & went back to the breeders section, “just to see what they had”, saw this gorgeous little girl & immediately fell in love.
Congrats on the GORGEOUS little man. He’s just simply precious. :)
Autumn

I know I’ve said this a zillion times but he is sooooo cute! I love his coloring. Sunday is blue merle, and it strangely confuses people, haha. (In the dark, people are sometimes scared of her. Poor little 35 lb puppy!)
Wish you were closer so we could have doggie playdates!
SO cute! Dogs are the best! I couldn’t imagine life without mine even if they are a major pain sometimes!
Love him already! He’s adorable! They just make our lives so much funnier and livelier! :)
Must meet him as soon as humanly possible… MURH!
He’s adorable! We just got our puppy three weeks ago and are in full on puppyhood mode. I love our little guy and can’t get enough of him. He’s growing every single day and I just want him to stay small. Welcome to puppyhood - it’s the best!
Congratulations- Rhody is such a cutie!!!! Yay, you’re a pup mom now- enjoy every sweet moment. I can’t imagine our life without our pup. If I lived closer, I’d offer to dog sit when you & Pat are out of town :-)

Oh MY goodness!!! What a cutie!!!!
What a sweetie! I love that breed so much and that name is a total winner! I seriously believe that the best pets in the world find YOU. Even if you’re only “looking”, they definitely make their presence known and you just can’t leave them behind! :)
Gabe and I desperately want a puppy, but given our, uh, trans-Atlantic situation…it might be a while. So, I’ll just be soaking in my google image + youtube “puppy” searches for a while. :)
How cute…congrats on the new addition! Also, you look lovely in that yellow scarf…such a great color on you!
Liesl :)

Congratulations!
We have 1 full Aussie, Lola, and our “baby”, Moose who is 1/2 Mini Aussie and 1/2 Border Collie….they looked just like Rhody when they were puppies, so it brings back great memories! I may be a little biased, but they are the very best breed, so loyal, loving, and intelligent! Enjoy all of the fun and love a puppy brings you and Happy Holidays!
