Blogger Holiday Traditions: Paloma’s Holiday Favorites {from Paper Garland}

by jacin on December 7, 2011

Could there be anyone more fabulous than the lovely Paloma of Paper Garland? She’s super sweet, super creative, and I’m just super happy to have her visiting today. Oh, and her Christmas to-do list gives me the holiday spirit at a single glance :) Thanks Paloma for visiting!

Hello, Lovely Little Details readers!  I’m Paloma from Paper Garland and I was so touched to be asked to be a part of Jacin’s Blogger Holiday Traditions series because this feature really showcases what she does best as a blogger: bringing people together to celebrate the simple things that make life special.  I didn’t grow up celebrating the winter holidays (in my case, Christmas!) with a strict set of traditions already in place that were passed down through the generations.  Rather, my family and I have developed our own assortment of mini-traditions over time.  My holiday traditions list is made up of all the little things I look forward to each Christmas and I have seen it grow year after year.  Sometimes I think that we conceptualize the traditional as what remains constant, but I like to think that injecting our own creativity into our traditions is what makes them truly ours!  I hope to inspire you to add a few more mini-traditions to your own holiday repertoire with my simple list.

1. I picked up Martha Stewart’s Holiday Cookies last year and I am having so much fun making my way through all of the delicious recipes.  So far, I’ve tried the Mexican Hot Chocolate Cookies, Sugar Cookies with Royal Icing, and the Glitter Ball Cookies.  I can’t wait to try a new recipe next weekend!

2. When we were younger, my brother and I had a hard time waiting until Christmas morning to open our gifts {pretty wrapping via Lora Jean’s magazine}, so we made it a habit of opening our gifts from one another on Christmas Eve.  It’s a little tradition that has stuck through the years!

3. What’s better than playing board games {Christmas bingo from Two Peas in a Bucket} by the fire on Christmas morning?

4. I love to support independent paper companies, especially around the holidays!  Rifle Paper Co. makes my favorite holiday cards year after year, and I can’t wait to send out their Gold Foil Garland Cards to my friends and family this year.

5. My girl Jacin loves a good mason jar, and so do I!  A mason jar full of homemade hot chocolate is the perfect gift and a great alternative to the classic box of chocolates.  Check out the Peppermint Hot Cocoa jars I put together last year!

6. If you are a fan of a traditional white Christmas, then Christmas in New England just can’t be beat!  Snow covered pines, decorated town centers, and white lights adorning all the local shops are just a few of our regional charms come holiday season.

What are the little traditions that make you smile around the holidays?
