fall inspiration series part 9: decor! (guest blogger Lauren/ELD)

by jacin on November 24, 2010

from jacin: lauren from every last detail is such an inspiration to all!  i’m so excited to have her on the blog today to share some of her favorite decor details… as we all know that is her forte!  if you haven’t checked out her blog yet, check it out now!  thank you so much lauren for taking the time out to do a guest post today :)

from Lauren: So many people love the Fall season, mostly because it’s perfect weather- a break from heat and humidity for the south, and the calm before the storm in the north. Along with the excellent weather, I for one also love Fall for the smells that fill the air and the rich colors everywhere. When Jacin asked me to do a post about Fall wedding inspiration for decor, of course I jumped at the chance, since I love Fall! When it comes to weddings, I like to see twists on the normal Fall-inspired decor and inspiration.

Now most people think of a Fall wedding and immediately go to oranges, browns, pumpkins, leaves, and more. I say awesome, but pick one. Pick orange and pair it with champagne instead of brown. Want a “Fall” item for your wedding? Stick to one- pumpkins or leaves or wheat or fruit. Too many elements and your wedding will start to look like a marketplace.

Go rustic. Nothing says Fall like rustic details - wood plaques, containers covered in bark for your flowers, and tree sections are all awesome! Long tables with burlap runners are always a perfect way to go.

Why not try colors that AREN’T the normal Fall orange? Wine and eggplant are an awesomely rich color combination if you want darker, or the muted peach would be perfect for a more casual outdoor wedding.

Okay, okay, and we can’t have Fall wedding decor inspiration without mason jars. They’re almost NECESSARY. :)

If you’re having a Fall wedding for any of the reasons I mentioned above (aka you LOVE the season), try to focus on infusing the Fall season into your wedding. Some of these ideas can infuse a little Fall into your wedding… - Use scented candles as part of your ceremony or escort card display. Some cinnamon or apple scented candles to greet your guests will set the tone as a “Fall” wedding without having to load up on pumpkins and leaves. (Just don’t put many in the reception or eating area- scented candles tend to mess with people’s senses when they’re eating.) - Think of your favorite Fall food, and have it served to your guests. Whether it’s butternut squash soup, s’mores, apple cider, or pies in lieu of a wedding cake, you’ll be incorporating your personality AND the Fall season, and your guests will definitely know it. - If you’re having an outdoor wedding, a fire is a MUST. Who doesn’t think of bonfires when they think of the Fall?! I hope you have loved all of this Fall wedding inspiration! Soak up this last bit of Fall this week and enjoy it! And if you’re planning a Fall wedding, how are you going to put your own little twist on it? Share with us!

This post is chockfull of SO many GREAT ideas for fall weddings! I most definitely agree with the "pick one" tip too. There is a point where too much is, well, too much. Great post, Lauren! Fabulous ideas!

oh wow, both flower photos (the first & purple flower bouquets) are gorgeous! Now I kind of wish I'd have gone with purple for my wedding :)

I'm having a fall wedding in 2011 and our colours are not normal fall colours - eggplant purple and lime green. We are doing some more fall-focused centerpieces (candles with tree branches and flowers), lots of candles everywhere, and our venue has a fireplace, which we're getting married in front of. I wanted a fall wedding without adding in the common fall elements in an obvious way - still very classy and elegant, just subtle touches. Our food/drinks will be fall focused as well.

All of these fall wedding posts are so special. I am a bit bias because I loved being a fall bride. We used Acorns on all of the day of stationery and small sprays of wheat in our centerpieces. We also had a warm beverage station before the ceremony with mulled apple cider (and coffee/tea) to keep every cozy and get the fall "juices" flowing
