Today’s lovely guest in the Bloggers {Unveiled} series is a little ray of sunshine in this crazy blogging world - Rhiannon Nicole of Hey Gorgeous, a blog filled to the brim with advice, pretty details, and tons of inspiration! Rhi’s upbeat personality is contagious; don’t we all need a bit of that in our lives? So happy she stopped by today.
About the Blogger:
Hi Everyone! I’m Rhi, the girl behind the blog Hey Gorg and the business Hey Gorgeous Events, and it’s a huge honour to be here on Jacin’s fabulous blog today. Being a part of the Bloggers Unveiled series is an amazing opportunity and I thank Jacin herself for allowing me to partake is the awesomeness. I’ve learned so much from her and all of you industry-related bloggers and vendors so kudos to everyone for being so passionate about what you do!
Blogger {Unveiled}:
How did you get started in the wedding world?
During my nearly 2.5 year engagement my love for styling, details and the aesthetic value of weddings really blossomed into a mild obsession and a way for me to utilize my creativity and organization skills. Friends, family and people at the flea markets and fabric stores I frequented would urge me to go into business so a few months before our wedding I really thought about my options and the potential to do this full time. When I returned home from our honeymoon, I had made up my mind and immediately started work on my first inspiration shoot. With that Hey Gorgeous Events was born as an extension to Hey Gorg the blog. I was so shocked and excited when Style Me Pretty featured that same shoot on Valentines Day!
What is your makeup staple?
I cannot live without my Lancome foundation and mascara. I have very dry problematic skin but recently bought some Lancome moisturizer that has helped tremendously and in combination with the foundation works like a dream. It’s so cliche but when your skin glows and looks fab, you feel confident and ready to take on the world. I also cannot leave the house without a little perfume on. I love Vera Wang scents.
What’s one thing that others don’t know about you?
A few people know this about me, but I was a National-level gymnast for 21 years of my life and continued the sport throughout the four years of my undergrad college career (Go Michigan State!). I even scored a Perfect 10 once :) Although I had to sacrifice quite a few things along the way I wouldn’t have traded my experience and the things I learned for anything. I still coach little kids part time and it’s a great way to stay involved in the sport and make a little money while my business is growing.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to others trying to get started with their own business?
While the legalities and professionalism behind running a business are obviously incredibly crucial and important components to success, if there’s no passion, a business will not grow and flourish to it’s utmost potential. I am a firm believer in having passion for all that you do in life in order to get the most fulfilling and successful results and the same holds true for any wedding industry related career. Your clients and potential clients will sense your passion and in turn be willing to work with someone who cares as much as they do - or on the flip side move on to the next vendor if you lack that pizazz and zest that they undoubtedly feel about their own big day. Wedding professionals are constantly working with their clients emotions; always remember how important it is to be in tune with your own and other’s emotions.
What is your favorite part about weddings?
Aside from the details that make weddings so unique and beautiful (isn’t that what we all love? the details?!) I am a total softie for love stories. It’s a little cliche but there’s something so powerful about two people falling in love only to celebrate at a rad party with dozens of supportive family and friends. I also adore wedding photography. Seeing how different photogs capture love is really a cool way to appreciate how individuality makes the wedding realm such a diverse and rich space to be a part of.
What is your hobby outside of blogging {is there life outside blogging}?
Outside of blogging sometimes I forget life exists :) Just kidding but honestly, for those wedding industry professionals who blog full time in addition to running their business I am sure you can relate to me when I say that it is hard work and a lot of dedication. Oh and sacrifice, that little word I used before. Sometimes to get to where you want to be, you need to sacrifice a little bit of something else. I work my part time job coaching little kids like mentioned above so really my life outside of blogging is spent trying to be a loving wife and friend to others. Because at the end of the day those things mean the most.
